When your disk space or file count limit is reached, uploads and email can fail. Free space by removing old backups, logs and unused files, or upgrade your plan.
Overview
Hosting plans include a set amount of disk space and a limit on the number of files (inodes). Backups, email and caches fill both quickly.
Why it happens
- Large backup files, old website copies and email attachments take space.
- Caching plugins and logs can create very many small files.
What it means
At the limit, your website can fail to save, WordPress updates can break and email can bounce. Clearing space fixes it immediately.
How to fix it
- In cPanel open Disk Usage to see which folders are largest.
- Delete old backups and zip files you no longer need, after downloading a copy.
- Clear cache folders and old logs: bandwidth and disk space explained.
- Remove old email and empty the Trash and Spam folders: mailbox full.
- If you need more room, upgrade: upgrade a hosting plan.
