To move a domain to another registrar you need its EPP authorization code. You can request it from the client area or by ticket, and it is only issued to the account holder.

Overview

The EPP code (also called an auth code) is a secret that proves you own the domain. The new registrar asks for it to start a transfer.

Why it happens

  • The code protects your domain from unauthorized transfers, so it is only given to the verified account owner.
  • Some domains cannot move for a short period after registration or a recent transfer.

What it means

Without the EPP code, a transfer cannot be completed. Keep the code private and use it only with the registrar you are moving to.

How to fix it

  1. Sign in to the client area as the account owner.
  2. Open the domain and choose to get the EPP / authorization code, or open a ticket requesting it.
  3. We send the code to the email on the account.
  4. Give the code to your new registrar and approve the transfer when they ask.
  5. Make sure your DNS records are copied at the new registrar before the transfer finishes, so your website and email keep working.
