The contact details on your domain decide who gets renewal notices and verification emails. Keep them current, and ask support for help if you need to change the owner.
Overview
Every domain has a registrant (owner) and contact details. These are stored with the registrar and the registry. For global domains, changing the registrant details may trigger verification.
Why it happens
- Business details change, staff leave, and emails go out of use.
- A domain was registered under a name that is not the business owner.
What it means
Wrong contact details can cause missed renewals, missed verification emails and trouble proving ownership later.
How to fix it
- Open the client area, go to My Domains and choose your domain.
- Open Contact Information and update the name, email and phone.
- Save, and for global domains watch for a verification email: ICANN verification.
- To transfer the domain to a different owner, open a ticket with the domain name and the new owner's details.
- Keep your account email current, because notices are sent there.
