To use a SakuraHost domain with a Netlify site, add an A record for the root domain and a CNAME record for www in your DNS. Netlify then issues the free HTTPS certificate.

Overview

Netlify hosts your website, and SakuraHost holds the domain and its DNS. You only need two records to link them.

Why it happens

  • Netlify needs to see that the domain points to its servers before it will serve your site and issue a certificate.

What it means

Once the records are correct, your site opens on your own domain with HTTPS. Certificate messages in Netlify often clear on their own after the records are in place, and you can retry from the Netlify HTTPS settings.

How to fix it

  1. In Netlify, open your site, then Domain management, and add your domain.
  2. In the SakuraHost client area open the domain and choose DNS Records (see DNS for .tz domains).
  3. Add an A record for the root domain with the Netlify load balancer address shown in Netlify's domain settings (commonly 75.2.60.5).
  4. Add a CNAME record for www pointing to your Netlify site address, for example your-site.netlify.app.
  5. Do not delete your existing MX and TXT records, they keep email and verification working. See keep email working.
  6. Back in Netlify, verify DNS and renew the certificate if it says it is incomplete.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to change nameservers?

No. You can keep SakuraHost nameservers and add the two records.

Netlify says the certificate is incomplete. What now?

Check that both the root domain and www records exist, wait a short while, then choose Verify DNS and Renew certificate in Netlify.
