Billed in US Dollars? How to Pay Your Invoice in Shillings and What Your Receipt Shows

If your invoice shows US dollars, you can still pay in shillings by M-Pesa, Mixx or bank. Your receipt and tax invoice are issued in shillings, for the amount you actually paid.

Overview

Some accounts are billed in US dollars, so the invoice shows a dollar amount (for example $7.41). Mobile money and bank transfers in Tanzania pay in shillings, so the dollar total is converted to shillings at our billing rate. The invoice is marked Paid when the shilling amount you send matches that conversion.

Why it happens

• Your account currency was set to US dollars when you signed up or placed your first order.
• Dollar prices are used for some services that are costed in dollars, such as certain servers and licences.

What it means

• You do not need a dollar card. Pay in shillings from your phone or bank.
• The shilling amount is the invoice total converted at our billing rate. As an example, an invoice of $7.41 comes to TZS 19,500.
• Your receipt and tax invoice show the shillings you paid, not the dollar figure.

How to pay

1. Open the invoice in the client area and choose Pay Now.
2. Follow the instructions for your payment method. If you only see a dollar amount and are not sure what to send, ask us for the shilling amount before you pay: open a ticket or message us on WhatsApp with your invoice number.
3. Pay the exact shilling amount from the phone number on your account.
4. Keep the confirmation SMS. Within about 10 minutes the invoice changes to Paid.

If something looks wrong

• The invoice is still unpaid after you paid: send us the transaction ID, the amount and the invoice number. Do not pay again. See How to Pay for Hosting and Domains in Tanzania (M-Pesa, Mixx, Bank).
• Your receipt shows a different amount from what you paid: open a ticket with the receipt and your payment SMS. We will correct it and issue the right receipt.
• You would rather be billed in shillings: ask support to change your account currency for future invoices.
